2014 EVENTS

St Anne's Triathlon

Myself (Gill) from the office and Karen Hurst, a Vet who used to work at Moy Vets decided to take part in a Triathlon in 2014! Training was hard and sometimes we thought we'd never do it, but just to make sure we did go through with it we asked people for sponsorship for the Brain Tumour Trust - Mark Lingard fund. You'll be pleased to hear that we both completed the Triathlon and in under 2 hours.  To date we have raised between us approximately £1,000.

The Shovels Hambleton Fun Run/Walk Family day

A 4 ½ mile Fun run, walk and family day

Michelle and her family, friends and work colleagues are entering the Hambleton Fun Run/Walk on Sunday 5th May

Some are running but most will be enjoying the 4.5 mile walk around Hambleton with their dogs.  Anyone welcome and we can then enjoy a burger and a pint back at the pub.  It is a great fun few hours and a fantastic way to raise awareness for The Brain Tumour Trust Charity – Mark Lingard Fund.

Please ask Michelle or any member of the practice for more details or an entry/sponsorship form

Charity Dog Walk

A Charity Dog Walk was planned from Moy Vets on Sunday 6th April, 2014.  And great fun was had by all.  There was a shorter route of 2.2 miles for the small, elderly or dogs with ailments who could only manage a certain distance.  This mainly on the lanes of Out Rawcliffe so anybody with push chairs could attend too.  The longer walk of 4.2 miles was along the lanes and onto the salt marsh where the dogs had a fabulous time off lead jumping in the puddles and cavorting in the mud.  Cakes and refreshments were available at the end of the walk and we managed to raise £200.95.

2013 EVENTS

The "Brainy Bunch Team", raising money and increasing awareness for The Brain Tumour Charity-Mark Lingard Fund, were involved with The Hambleton Fun Run/Walk on Sunday 5th May 2013.

It was cloudy and windy to start but not too cold and everyone turned up that had said they would join us. We had a team of 40 with about 13 runners and all the others walking. We had a few extra team members with at least 10 dogs joining in!

There was a fantastic atmosphere with the local radio station mascots "Chuck" and "Charlie" the chipmunks joining us, Pilling Brass band playing and lots more live entertainment with great burgers and the pub doors open for refreshments. There were many stalls of all types to browse after the run/walk. Hundreds of local people joined in to show what a wonderful caring area this is.

I estimate (from what people have said to me) that we will have raised approximately £1000. That is a massive amount for a Sunday morning of fun and festivities.

Thank you to everyone who joined the "red" team for all their hard work raising sponsorship and for giving up their bank holiday Sunday to be part of this event.

Bandana Day

On Friday, March 1st Vets, Dogs, Cats and even Guinea Pigs used their heads to support The Brain Tumour Charity.  The Team at Moy Vets in Out Rawcliffe, Thornton – Cleveleys, Hambleton and Knott  End on Sea donned colourful bandanas and donated to the Brain Tumour Charity on behalf of The Mark Lingard Fund.

Michelle put up displays at the practices to show the work that The Brain Tumour Charity does and about the bandana day itself.

The Brain Tumour Charity is the UK’s largest brain tumour charity.  It funds scientific and clinical research into brain tumours and offers information and support to those affected, while raising awareness and influencing policy.  Its aim is to improve understanding, diagnosis and treatment of brain tumours.

Over 8,500 people are diagnosed with a primary brain tumour every year and they are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40.  We raised £27.31 on the day.  The collecting tin at Animal Medical Centre had donations of £129.21 and the tin at Moy Farm had £77.60 – so many thanks to all our generous clients.

Anyone wishing to findout more about the charity or who wishes to donate should visit The Brain Tumour Charity Website.

This amazing local group, based at The Shovels Pub in Hambleton, have raised £13,500 through their annual fun run and many other events and then split this between local charities and groups tosupport the community. It was a very humbling and emotive evening hearing some amazing stories about local people and their fundraising efforts.

A friend and local horse owner (whom Mark had cared for her horses),

Lyn Lee, so very kindly nominated The Brain Tumour Charity Mark Lingard Fund.

We received a cheque for an amazing £750 - thank you so much to all local people who were involved in this.

OCTOBER

Dublin Marathon - Meet the Head Nurse Vicky

Vicky has been with Moy Vets over 10 years! She studied and passed her Veterinary Nursing qualification with Moy which also gained her the achievement of having the highest pass rate in the country for this qualification. Vicky’s duties at Moy Vets, along with attending all the medical needs of inpatients and visitors is guiding the trainee nurses through their training. Vicky also runs a free three week course for clients who have new puppies, where clients attend three evenings for a ‘Puppy Pre-School’ we have found this to be very popular with the clients and helps them on the right road to owning a well adjusted member of the family.

This year Vicky is in training to run a Marathon in Dublin on the 29th October where she hopes to raise funds in support of the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust – Mark Lingard Fund. This is quite a big achievement for Vicky as it will be her first Marathon. Vicky actually started training for her Marathon back in May 2012 in order for her to be fit enough to compete for the event. In her training alone she will have covered an amazing 650 miles.

We wish her well. Anyone wishing to sponsor her can do so by contacting the practice for details or following the link below:

The NFU Social at the local Out Rawcliffe Village Hall is where Michelle gave her first public speech about The Brain Tumour Charity.  She said 'It was nerve racking as I am not a natural public speaker but in 2 1/2 hours they raised over £1,200 half of which was for The Mark Lingard Fund, so it was worth all the nerves and emotions'.
